Etz Chayim
This small group of congregants has been experiencing slow but steady growth over the past few years, particularly in young families. Most of the existing support spaces are currently housed in an old house, resulting in many small and confiding spaces. The Chapel is a newer addition but the orientation is wrong in relation to the position of the Torah.
The design solution involves demolishing the existing house and building a new Chapel, Social Hall, Office and Kitchen in its place. The existing Chapel will remain and be converted to other supporting spaces. This approach allows the new Chapel and Social Hall to be much more open. The wall between the two is operable, with the capability of moving the Social Hall wall a distance of fifteen feet into the Chapel. The beams in the Chapel make an inference to the Star of David. A light monitor on top of the Chapel allows light to fill the space at all hours of the day.
